Registered Physical Therapists (RPTs) are the experts in muscles and bones and how they interact with physical movement. RPTs use a variety of methods, including exercise, heat, cold, electricity and massage. The RPT will supervise any Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) assigned to provide some of your care.
As part of your home health team, the RPT trains patients and family members to perform ongoing care. The overall goal is to restore maximum function and independence.
Typical conditions that benefit from Physical Therapy in the home include:
• Arthritis
• Osteoporosis
• Hip and joint replacement
• Balance
• Incontinence
• Cardio and Pulmonary rehabilitation
Physical therapy can help you increase endurance after a heart attack or bypass surgery. For those with chronic lung disease, PT offers exercises to improve shortness of breath.
Patients with brain injury or stroke, paralysis, poor balance, or visual impairment also benefit from Physical Therapy.
